Named after the Greek Goddess of the dawn, the Eos is a 93 metre Bermuda rigged schooner with three exceptionally long masts. Launched in 2006 it is one of the biggest privately owned yachts in the world. It was bought by Diane von Furstenburg, an internationally renowned fashion designer and her husband the media magnate Barry Diller in 2009.

Construction of the Eos

The world famous Lürssen shipyard in Bremen, Germany built the Eos over a period of three years. The rig was supplied by Rondal/Huisman, Bill Langan completed the exterior design, François Catroux took care of interior design work, and the naval architecture was completed by the shipyard. The masts were constructed at maximum height possible according to international standards (61 metres) so that the yacht may pass under bridges around the world. Once the Eos was completed it overtook the Athena as largest sailing yacht in the world of the time.

Luxurious and Comfortable Travel

Valued at more than US$150 million the Eos can comfortably accommodate 16 guests and 21 crew members to ensure that every guest’s journey is made in absolute comfort. With two powerful MTU diesel engines, the yacht can attain a cruising speed of 14 yachts and a top speed of up to 16 knots. Every modern amenity ensures safe and enjoyable passage. From state-of-the-art navigation systems to expertly rigged electronic sails – it is a breeze to navigate around the world’s oceans with the Eos. Little is known about the interior of the Eos but images that are available online show an elegantly decorated and luxurious space.

It is rumoured that the yacht is an ideal venue for entertaining with several luxuriously appointed areas and a Jacuzzi on the upper deck. There is also talk about a flamboyant glass staircase and panoramic views from the back of the boat. A variety of speedboats are available to transport guests and crew members ashore.
