The Pacific – Mikhelson’s Pride and Joy
In 2010 Lürssen Shipyard built the superyacht the Pacific, an impressive 85.2 meters long ship which was launched in Germany. The elegant yacht’s unique color seems to shift in the sunlight as it glides across the oceans at a cruise speed of up to 14.4 knots and a maximum speed of 21.6 knots. The Pacific is active in the oceans and has been seen circumnavigating the globe in places like the South of France, Italy, Australia, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Hawaii and Florida. By comfortably accommodating two helicopters, guests can easily be transported to and from the yacht, where absolute comfort and luxury awaits.
Inside the Pacific
The luxurious interior was designed by the renowned Bannenberg & Rowell Design. It features earthy tones infused with splashes of blue. The yacht’s furniture and soft furnishings feature neutral colors and richly textured fabrics. Up to 12 guests and 28 crew members can enjoy a comfortable journey onboard the Pacific. An elevator makes it easy to move between floors and the impressive range of amenities ensures that every guest has an enjoyable time. Whether they prefer being pampered in the spa, relaxing in the Jacuzzi on deck or watching a movie in the onboard theater, guests can achieve absolute relaxation. For those who enjoy staying active, there is a well-equipped gym and a pool. Guests can also avail of outings on the water or to the nearest harbor with one of the Pacific’s tenders.
Only the best for the rich Russians
Art collector and entrepreneur Leonid Mikhelson is the owner of the Pacific. Mikhelson is yet another very wealthy Russian who owns a luxurious superyacht: Viktor Rashnikov owns an enormous yacht with six swimming pools called Ocean Victory. Russian oligarch Suleyman Kerimov is the proud owner of the award-winning superyacht Ice, and the world’s richest Russian Alisher Usmanov loved his superyacht so much, he named it Dilbar – after his late mother. Like many other extremely wealthy Russians, Mikhelson is a high-ranking business executive with a lot of power on top of a lot of money. Only the best will do for high-flying Russians like Mikhelson.
One of the richest men in Russia
As the chairman and major shareholder of Russia’s biggest natural gas provider Novatek, Mikhelson plays a major role in the Russian energy industry. Before taking on the role of chairman, he was the Managing Director of the company. After privatization, the formerly state-owned gas pipeline and oil company started selling shares and Mikhelson bought substantial stock. The company started diversifying and acquiring interests in other companies, also in the gas and oil industry. In 2014 Novatek achieved sales of US$6.5 billion with a profit of US$700 million, making an already wealthy Mikhelson even wealthier. According to Forbes, the super rich Russian has a net worth of around US$14 billion. In 2012 he was proclaimed as the 2nd richest man in Russia. Mikhelson also owns over half the shares of the petrochemical and gas company Sibur and is the founder and president of the VAC Foundation, an organization dedicated to developing contemporary Russian art.
