The award winning yacht, Al Mirqab, is one of the biggest motorised yachts ever built. Owned by the former prime minister of Qatar, Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, the yacht has been gracing the oceans since it was completed in 2008.
Motor Yacht Al Mirqab
The 113m motor yacht was built by the renowned German shipyard Peters Schiffbau, located in Steinburg, Germany. During construction the yacht was called Project May. The stunning exterior of the yacht was designed by the esteemed designer Tim Heywood and the lavishly appointed interior has the hallmark of class and elegance that yacht enthusiasts have come to associate with the world-class design studio Andrew Winch Designs.
Al Mirqab is not only beautiful; she can achieve a cruising speed of 21 knots and as much as 23 knots when going flat out. Up to 60 guests can be luxuriously accommodated on board Al Mirqab along with as many crew members. Guests are assured absolute comfort with the ‘at anchor stabilisers’ feature which makes the boat stable at zero speed, even in the roughest waters. Amenities include a cinema, bars, a pool, a Jacuzzi and a helicopter pad. Al Mirqab won the illustrious ‘Motor Yacht of the Year’ award in 2009.

Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani is known for his efforts in resolving political conflict in the Middle East and Africa for over two decades. He held the office of prime minister of Qatar between April 2007 and June 2013. Before this position, Hamad’s career titles included being the deputy prime minister, foreign minister and minister of municipal affairs. Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani was born in Doha, Qatar in 1959. After his first marriage ended in 1996, Hamad married the daughter of the former minister of education. He is the father of 15 children.
