An enigmatic, dark and futuristic looking stealth yacht slinked into San Francisco Bay recently. Beside the typically white and bulky pleasure yachts, this grand vessel looked like a sleek black greyhound in the middle of a pack of British bulldogs. The beautiful motor yacht anchored off Sausalito where boat enthusiasts and passers-by’s jaws dropped and their cameras lifted to capture the magnificent ship.
The mystery unveiled
Although not much was gleaned from its occupants, on further investigation it turned out to be the Galeocerdo, a 118-foot pleasure yacht that looks like it could be Batman’s new toy or possibly Darth Vader’s weekend home. The Galeocerdo (the binomial name for the tiger shark) is the only Wally 118 built thus far. The ship builder Wally believes that this model is the most distinctive motor yacht in the world. The intrepid company also claims that it is one of the fastest yachts in its class.
I’d like one in any colour, as long as it’s black
According to rumours in the yachting world, this is not the first, nor will it be the last of these ultramodern ultra-black ‘jetboats’ doing amazing things in the water. The super luxury Black Swan yacht designed by Timur Bozca is aerodynamically shaped like an arrow and finished in sleek black. Juliet Marine Systems built another sci-fi looking boat called GHOST, with the intention of selling it to the military. GHOST is constructed to be a seafaring combination between an attack helicopter and a stealth fighter plane. Unfortunately, thus far the US Navy has said thanks, but no thanks. It can only be speculated whether Juliet Marine will eventually flog this super craft to the military, or whether it will join the Galeocerdo and the Black Swan as part of the latest fleet of luxury yachts on our oceans.
