The Great and Little Abaco Islands

The Bahamian Abaco Islands are a wonderland of luxury, opulence, and relaxation. The islands are broken down into Great Abaco and Little Abaco Islands with a few smaller dainty cays tucked in between and around. Intricate and sheltered islands and warm weather bode well for relaxed sailing trips.

It’s all about ships

Getting back to basics has never been easier, with unmatched hospitality on the Man-O-War Cay, famous for its boat building culture. A culture so rich the Man-O-War houses are famous for being built like ships, able to withstand the hurricanes that occasionally vacation on the islands. This sailing destination is a highly recommended addition to any sailing and ship enthusiast’s bucket list.

Not a party destination

Quaint and set away from the hustle and bustle of Florida, the cays are conservative and no alcohol is sold here. Instead of a bustling nightlife, pubs and clubs, the Man-o-war cay boasts two grocery stores and not much else – giving visitors a sense of community and togetherness.

Outdoor family fun

Dazzling white beaches and mangroves line the coast of the Abaco Islands – a place where the whole family can find their bliss. Docking for snorkelling and diving is a must – you could try asking Bono for a lift on his Cyan that’s equipped with the right gear; the Abaco Islands are situated within one of the world’s largest coral reefs, just like the Society Islands of French Polynesia, with stunning views above and below water. Your time on the islands and its beautiful cays can be spent languishing in the Florida weather, with fishing and bike rides through the towns.

An authentic island experience

The Bahamians have a unique approach to hospitality with their people-to-people ambassador project. The project involves a local ambassador taking visitors around the Islands, giving them an opportunity for a first hand and intimate experience with their culture, traditions and the Bahamian way of life. The service is free and can be signed up for at most hotel help desks or the local tourist office. The Abaco Islands welcome weary sailors with open arms into their relaxed and simple way of life.
